responsibility of acting chairman of the NBR.

The order also appointed him acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division, which oversees the NBR.

He will replace the current NBR chairman, Md Abdur Rahman Khan, who was appointed during the tenure of the interim government.

The appointments take immediate effect in the public interest, according to the notification.

Ahsan is a career tax cadre officer with more than three decades of experience in tax administration. He previously served as the director general of the NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell.

According to his official profile, he secured second place in the national merit list of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (Taxation) cadre and ranked first in departmental training at the BCS Tax Academy. He also holds BSc (Honours) and MSc degrees from the University of Dhaka, graduating first in his master’s programme.

Over the course of his career, he has received professional training in tax audit, transfer pricing, investigation, intelligence, and tax digitisation in India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Europe.
