The two were arrested in Dhaka and later killed in what police described as a “crossfire” on February 21, 2015.

Asim told the tribunal that after a pickup van was set on fire in February that year, he was directed to become the complainant in a case and sign a pre-prepared FIR against the two.

He said on February 20, 2015, he was summoned to the OC’s office, where then-SP Ehsanullah told him that two suspects arrested in Dhaka would be killed in a “crossfire” on instructions from higher authorities.

“I told him I am ready to quit my job, but I could not do such a thing… nobody could force me to do it,” he testified.

The SP became furious and threatened to ruin his annual confidential report and block his promotion prospects, Asim said.

He claimed that the SP later approached other officers of Agailjhara Police Station with the same proposal, but none agreed.

The following night, while on duty near the Agailjhara bypass bridge, Asim said he saw the SP’s vehicle heading towards the Budhar area and later heard gunshots.

The next morning, he was informed that Tipu and Kabir had been killed in a “crossfire”.

He said Uzirpur police ASIs Mahabul and Jasim carried out the killing.

He claimed that although the victims were never brought to the police station, a general diary was falsely filed showing they had been taken to Agailjhara Police Station.
