The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday set June 28 for delivering its verdict against five former police officers in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of two people and the shooting of two others in Rampura during the July 2024 uprising.

The date was fixed after both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments.

On August 6, the prosecution submitted formal charges against former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman; former additional deputy commissioner of DMP’s Khilgaon Zone Rashedul Islam; former Rampura Police Station OC Mashiur Rahman; former sub-inspector Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan; and former assistant sub-inspector of Rampura police outpost Chanchal Chandra Sarkar.

Of the five accused, only Chanchal is in custody.

According to the prosecution, six-year-old Musa was critically injured by police gunfire on July 19, while the same bullet killed his grandmother, Maya Begum. Musa later survived after receiving treatment. Another person, Md Nadim, was also shot dead.

On the same day, a video that went viral showed 18-year-old Amir Hossain hanging from a building ledge as two policemen allegedly fired at him from close range.
