The government has initiated legal, diplomatic and administrative measures to bring back former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, who was arrested in Dubai on Friday.

On Sunday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced in the parliament that Benazir was arrested by Dubai Police based on an Interpol Red Notice issued at Bangladesh’s request for a corruption case.

Benazir, once among the most powerful law enforcement figures under the ousted Awami League government, concealed assets worth Tk 2.62 crore and acquired Tk 9.44 crore from sources beyond his known income, said the Interpol Red Notice, updated on April 11, 2025.
