Speaking under Rule 71 on urgent public importance, Rumeen said in March and April alone, Bangladesh recorded 605 murders, 294 muggings, 90 robberies, and 196 abductions. She also said police were attacked in 129 incidents, while 2,214 theft cases were reported.

On women and children’s safety, she cited 3,496 cases of abuse during the period, including 78–102 rapes, 30–36 gang rapes, and 49–71 child rapes.

“These figures clearly show how fragile and alarming the law and order situation has become in just three months,” she said.

Rumeen argued that the government’s success or failure depends largely on the economy and law and order. “Had the home minister been present, it would have been easier to spell out his failures,” she added.

Meanwhile, Cumilla-2 MP Selim Bhuiyan said around 6,00,000 teachers and staff had not received their salaries before Eid-ul-Azha, with May salaries still unpaid as of June 8.

He called for accountability and welcomed government steps to fund the Private Teachers’ Retirement Benefits Board and Welfare Trust.
