After a two-day lull during the Eid holiday, both suspected measles cases and hospital admissions have risen over the last four days, raising fresh concern.

The country recorded six more deaths from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am yesterday, taking the total death toll to 594.

Of the deaths, 90 were recorded as confirmed measles fatalities, while 504 died with measles-like symptoms since March 15, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest DGHS data show 1,292 new suspected cases in the last 24 hours, raising the total suspected cases to 73,362 since March 15.

A total of 42 confirmed cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 9,136.

With the latest figures, the country has recorded more than 1,000 suspected cases for four consecutive days. The number of suspected cases was 826 on May 28 and 674 on May 29.

But cases rose again from May 30. The number of suspected cases was 1,033, 1,324 and 1,134 on May 30, 31 and June 1, respectively, according to DGHS data.

Hospital admissions have also increased. A total of 1,208 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted in the latest reporting period -- the highest since May 21, when admissions stood at 1,279.

Admissions remained below 1,000 between May 26 and May 29, reaching a low of 616 on May 29. The figures then climbed to 907 on May 30, 1,181 on May
