Eid is a busy time for everyone. From looking after the sacrificial animal, overseeing the slaughtering, distributing the meat, to cooking to our palate’s desires, things can get pretty hectic.

Much of the process has now been made easier.

Avoiding the annual hullabaloo, many people now opt for online Qurbani, where all one needs to do is select a cow, make a payment from their digital wallet, and the meat arrives processed on Eid day. Some pages even offer cash-on-delivery options!

This year, we are getting an extended holiday, which gives people an opportunity to take things slow and get back to doing things the traditional way. Why not revisit the haat and bargain with the bepari to your heart’s content?

After the cow is brought home, offer the animal food and water. Take care of it personally until the day of the sacrifice. Haggle with the butcher early in the morning and oversee the matter.

You will also be left with time after the Eid rituals are over. Rather than endlessly scrolling reels on social media, spend time with family. Visit an ice cream parlour with cousins like you used to do in the past, or introduce the new generation to this once celebrated affair.
