PM’s adviser Zahed says Hasina won’t face any extrajudicial steps

An elite force, whether the Rapid Action Battalion or another, would continue to operate under well-defined laws, as it is necessary for the state, said Zahed Ur Rahman, adviser to the prime minister on information and broadcasting affairs, yesterday.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing at the Secretariat, he, however, said Rab may not remain in its current form, and the home ministry would decide whether the force will continue to exist under its current name.

He noted that Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has already announced plans for a new law governing the force and that its name is likely to be changed.
