The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on May 28, as the moon of Zilhajj was sighted in the country yesterday evening.

The decision was made at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Eid-ul-Azha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering devotion to Allah SWT and his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to divine command. At the moment of sacrifice, Allah SWT replaced Ismail with a ram, which was sacrificed instead.

On May 17, Saudi Arabia officially confirmed the sighting of the Zilhajj crescent moon, marking the beginning of the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. According to reports by Gulf News and Khaleej Times, Eid-ul-Azha will be observed in Saudi Arabia on May 27.
