The appointment of 14,384 candidates selected as assistant teachers at government primary schools has entered another stage of scrutiny, days after the education minister assured that none of them would be dropped.

The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) yesterday instructed district primary education officers to arrange police verification of the candidates, who were primarily selected under the Primary Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2025.

The education ministry asked the authorities to verify the previous activities of the selected candidates through police investigation. It also asked them to verify the authenticity of their documents and papers.

The candidates were selected in the final results published on February 8 this year, during the interim government. Since then, they have been demanding appointment letters and posting orders.

They staged protests at Dhaka’s Shahbagh and later in front of the DPE in Mirpur. On April 27, police allegedly baton-charged several candidates while dispersing their sit-in.
