The actual number of measles deaths is likely higher than the central tally, as data from two divisional offices of the health directorate show at least 34 more suspected deaths than reported in the official figures.

No suspected deaths were reported from Mymensingh division, according to central data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The division recorded two confirmed deaths until 8:00am yesterday.

However, data from the office of the DGHS director for Mymensingh division show that 25 suspected deaths were reported there in addition to the two confirmed deaths by this time.

All the suspected deaths occurred at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), said Mainuddin Khan, the hospital’s assistant director (administration).

He confirmed the total deaths to be 25 as of Tuesday and the data has been sent to the DGHS headquarters.
