Different political and student organisations observed the 13th anniversary of the killings during a Hefajat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in the capital’s Motijheel on May 5, 2013, through discussions, photo exhibitions, and human chains yesterday.

Opposition Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement demanding an independent, neutral, and credible probe commission to uncover the truth behind the “horrific massacre”.

He called for the facts to be revealed and for exemplary punishment of those responsible.

“This is a sorrowful and shameful chapter in the country’s history. The brutal operation against the ‘Tawhidi’ people that day deeply shook the nation’s conscience and went against humanity, justice, and democratic values,” he said.

He also expressed regret that no fair and acceptable trial has taken place even after so many years, stressing the need to ensure accountability and prevent such incidents in the future.
