“Based on our calculations, there is little reason for the budget to come under significant pressure,” he said.

Hasnat Abdullah raised concerns over the financial scale of the programme, estimating the scheme would require Tk 1.2 lakh crore annually, rising to Tk 1.34 lakh crore when including processing costs.

“Will this create inflationary pressure?” he also asked.

Responding, the PM dismissed concerns about inflation, stating that the programme would not involve printing money.

He said increased spending through the scheme would circulate within the rural economy, boosting local industries and employment.
