The International Crimes Tribunal-2 yesterday set May 11 to begin arguments in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July uprising, involving four absconding Awami League leaders.

The date was fixed after cross-examination of the investigation officer concluded, completing testimony from all 19 prosecution witnesses.

The accused are AL Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Kushtia district AL President Sadruddin Khan, General Secretary Azgar Ali and city AL General Secretary Ataur Rahman Ata.

In another case, three state-appointed defence lawyers for former AL lawmaker AKM Shamim Osman and 11 others sought discharge, calling the case over killings during the 2024 uprising in Narayanganj “politically motivated”. The tribunal will pass an order on May 5. All the accused are absconding.
