The attack on the deputy director of the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) was triggered by a dispute over a hospital tender between two groups, Rab said yesterday.

According to Rab, the clash involved two rival groups -- one led by Rubel and the other by the Monayem Group -- over the tender.

“Acting on instructions from Rubel, who is currently in Malaysia, two to three hired attackers carried out the assault on Ahmad Hossain to intimidate the hospital authorities,” said MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, director of Rab’s legal and media wing, at a press briefing at the Rab Media Centre in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar.

The attackers were hired for Tk 20,000, said the Rab official, quoting five suspects, who were arrested from different parts of Dhaka.
