The High Court yesterday deferred hearing on a writ petition challenging the legality of repealing the ordinance issued by the interim government to establish a separate secretariat for the Supreme Court.

The bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar said the petition will remain on its cause list until the Appellate Division decides on an appeal the state plans to file against the HC verdict that directed the government to establish the SC Secretariat.

The bench also expressed its expectation that the government will not alter existing structures of the SC Secretariat in the meantime, petitioners’
