Measles infections are rising in Cumilla, with another child dying from measles-rubella complications yesterday morning.

The latest victim, Raihan, 8, died while undergoing treatment at the measles isolation ward of Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

With this, the total number of child deaths from measles-rubella in the district has risen to four.

Doctors at the hospital said Raihan was admitted on the night of April 14 with a high fever, cough, and severe rash. His condition remained critical from the time of admission.

According to data from the Civil Surgeon’s Office, a total of 672 children have been infected with measles or its symptoms in Cumilla from the beginning of this year until yesterday morning. Among them, 344 were hospitalised, while 245 have been released after treatment.

Children under age five account for 66 percent of the infected cases. Of them, infants aged 0 to 9 months make up the largest share at 33 percent.

Additionally, 17 percent are aged 9–11 months, 16 percent are 1–2 years old, and 13 percent are between 2–4 years.
