A teenage girl was found dead in a pond near a brick kiln in the Municipal College area of Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenaidah yesterday.

On information from locals, police recovered the body of Nasima Khatun, 14, daughter of late Nazmul Meer from Sabdarpur village.

Since last Ramadan, her family had been living in Solemanpur village under the Kotchandpur municipality, said police.

Kotchandpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Asaduzzaman told The Daily Star that locals spotted the body in the pond near Eco Bricks, located beside the Kotchandpur–Kaliganj highway. Initially, the identity of the body could not be confirmed. The victim’s identity was later verified.

The body was sent to Jhenaidah 250-bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Family members said Nasima left home on Wednesday morning, telling them she was going out with friends, but did not return.

Kotchandpur Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Sayem Yusuf said police started investigation.
