The minister said the initiative would not be introduced in all schools at once. Rather, it could be launched as a pilot project at institutions with the required capacity.

Milon said crises across history have often opened the door to new possibilities, and that the education system must move forward with new methods instead of being halted by the current situation.

In the same way, Bangladesh’s education system would have to be rethought in the context of the current energy crisis, traffic congestion, and global competition.

The minister said under the proposed model, some classes would be held online and some offline during the week.

He also said teachers’ training and supervision would have to be increased to make online classes effective, and that students would need to remain focused during virtual classes.

Milon said the government had already taken various steps to save electricity, including fixing air-conditioner temperatures and changing office hours, along with an emphasis on expanding the use of solar power and electric transport.
