Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Kurigram and Dinajpur, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Kurigram, a driver died after his brick-laden engine-run vehicle overturned in Phulbari upazila around 12:30pm yesterday. The deceased, Ataur Rahman, 24, of Nageshwari upazila, was transporting bricks from a local kiln when the vehicle reportedly broke down with a loud noise shortly after crossing the Phulbari Dharla Bridge, causing it to overturn.

Severely injured after being trapped under the vehicle, Ataur was rescued by locals and taken to Phulbari Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of Phulbari Police Station said one person died after being crushed under the vehicle, adding that the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy as no complaint was filed.

In Dinajpur, a battery-run rickshaw-van puller was killed in a separate accident at Nitaisha intersection in Ghoraghat upazila on Sunday night. The victim, Babul Mia, 50, from Gaibandha, was returning from Osmanpur Bazar around 8:30pm when his vehicle overturned after climbing onto a raised section of the road.

Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam of Ghoraghat Police Station said, “A speeding truck then ran him over, killing him on the spot.” Police have taken steps to identify the truck and initiate legal action.
