“During my detention, I was inhumanely tortured,” he told The Daily Star.

He said he was later handed over to the Detective Branch on August 23 that year and shown arrested the following day.

A few days later, he was produced before a court and placed on remand, and spent nearly two years in Dhaka Central Jail before securing bail from the High Court.

According to a Daily Star report published on August 29, 2015, Mamun was sent to jail after being produced before a Dhaka court following a three-day remand in a case linked to a controversial phone conversation involving Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court yesterday placed Mamun Khaled on a three-day remand in a case over the killing of furniture trader Mohammad Delowar Hossain during the July uprising, taking his total remand to 14 days.

Earlier, ICT-2 asked jail authorities to produce Mamun Khaled and former army officer Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury before the tribunal today.

Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam recently said two arrested retired senior military officers were involved in activities that fall within the definition of crimes against humanity, including secret detention, killings and enforced disappearances.
