Three people, including a four-year-old child, were killed and six others injured in road accidents in two districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Dinajpur, two people were killed and at least six others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus rammed into a parked sand-laden truck on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway at Chandipur village in Birampur upazila.

Mosharraf Hossain Babu, 57, of Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj, and Azijul Islam, 25, the bus driver’s assistant from Sundarpur village in Kaharol upazila, died on the spot, said passengers and locals.

Inspector (Investigation) Ataur Rahman of Birampur Police Station told The Daily Star that the accident occurred around 5:30am when a coach of Heritage Tour and Travels rear-ended the stationary truck.

Firefighters and police took the injured to Birampur Upazila Health Complex. Five of them were later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Police seized both vehicles, the officer said, adding that a case was filed with Birampur Police Station, accusing the bus driver, who remains at large.

Meanwhile, in Jhenaidah, a four-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a three-wheeler in Kaliganj upazila.

The victim, Moriyum Khatun Maria, daughter of Mannan Sheikh of Bhatadanga village in Raygram union, was crossing a paved road near her house, said locals. She was declared dead at Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.

Kaliganj Police Station OC Jellal Hossain said efforts are underway to identify the driver, who fled the scene.
