ministers, with only three having their biographies uploaded.

The foreign ministry appears to be the most updated, having published the biographies of its minister, Dr Khalilur Rahman, and state minister, Shama Obaed Islam.

The ministries of education and primary and mass education have uploaded the biography of their minister, ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, who heads both ministries. However, there is no information about the state minister, Bobby Hajjaj.

Similarly, the two divisions under the power and energy ministry have published information about their minister, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, but not about the state minister.

At the civil aviation and tourism ministry, the biography of state minister Rashiduzzaman Millat has been uploaded, but the profile of minister Afroza Khanam is not available.

The women and children affairs ministry has uploaded the profile of its state minister, Farzana Sharmin. However, although she also serves as state minister for the social welfare ministry, that ministry’s website does not carry her profile.

Websites of several key ministries -- finance, home affairs, health and family welfare, commerce, agriculture, environment, law, industries, and information and broadcasting -- have yet to publish any profile of their heads.

Even the defence ministry website, overseen by the prime minister, displays only his photograph without any profile.

The Prime Minister’s Office website includes a section for the prime minister’s biography, but the link leads to no information.

In some cases, technical issues further limit access.

The website of the road transport and highways division under the road transport and bridges ministry shows a “page couldn’t be found” message for the minister’s profile. Sheikh Rabiul Alam heads the ministry.

The Cabinet Division’s website also does not feature the prime minister’s profile. Although it lists ministers and state ministers along with their portfolios and appointment dates, no biographical information has been uploaded.

Talking to The Daily Star, AKM Abdul Awal Mazumder, a former secretary, said updating official websites is a routine administrative task that should be completed shortly after a new cabinet takes office.

“This is the age of information technology, and such lapses reflect poorly on the ministries concerned,” he said.

He said citizens naturally want to know about newly appointed ministers and state ministers after a government assumes office. “That is why their biodata should be uploaded within 24 to 48 hours of taking oath.”

He added that millions of Bangladeshis live abroad and may seek information about their representatives, while government websites serve as primary sources of official information for citizens, journalists, researchers, and foreign stakeholders.

“To ensure that people can easily learn about the government’s key figures, I hope their profiles will be uploaded without delay,” he said.

An official at the home ministry, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the minister’s information will be uploaded soon.

Sources at the agriculture ministry said such tasks are usually handled by the personal wings of ministers and state ministers. “Since officers have not yet been appointed to the entire wing, it is taking some time,” one source said.

A finance ministry official, also requesting anonymity, acknowledged the delay.

“This should have been done on the very first day. Not uploading ministers’ biodata is a form of negligence -- it should not have happened. I hope it will be completed within a few days,” the official said.
