The body of a college student was recovered from the Padma river in Munshiganj’s Louhajang upazila yesterday.

Abu Naim, son of Raihan Uddin of Natore, was a second-year student of Civil and Marine Engineering at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST).

Fire service sources said the body was found about 40 feet underwater, around 500 yards away from Pillar-4 of the Padma Bridge.

Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said on Saturday, 18 MIST students went to see the Padma Bridge by boat. Three students jumped into the river to bathe. Two of them managed to swim back to the boat, while Naim went missing.
