The International Crimes Tribunal-2 is set to deliver its first verdict on February 5 in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of seven people, including the burning of six bodies, during the July 2024 uprising in Ashulia.

A three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Nozrul Islam Chowdhury announced the date yesterday.

The tribunal declared the case ready for a verdict on January 20 after arguments from both the prosecution and the defence concluded.

Of the 16 accused in the case, eight are currently in custody while the remaining eight are absconding. The accused include former Awami League lawmaker from Savar Muhammad Saiful Islam, former Dhaka Range DIG Syed Nurul Islam, and former Dhaka SP Md Asaduzzaman Ripon.

Meanwhile, ICT-1 yesterday took cognisance of two sets of formal charges in separate crimes against humanity cases.
