Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman yesterday described the upcoming national parliamentary election as a turning point for Bangladesh.

“It [the election] stands on the sacrifice of 1,400 martyrs. It marks the end of the dark ‘Aynaghar’ era. It is an election to end the tears of the martyrs’ families. It is an election to bury the rotten politics of the past,” he said while addressing a rally organised at the Shinghajani Bohumukhi High School field in Jamalpur.

He said that if his party is voted to power, it will ensure jobs for the youth. “The youth do not want allowances; they want work.

“We will not insult them with unemployment allowances; instead, we will give them jobs.”
