accused, only Wajibul is now on bail, according to the case records.

The PBI took charge of the investigation after the court directed it on February 26 last year.

According to the charge sheet, the incident began around 2:00pm on September 18, 2024, during a cricket match at the hall field, when six mobile phones were stolen. Later that evening, around 7:45pm, Tofazzal arrived at the field during a football match and was suspected of theft. Students punched and kicked him before taking him to the hall’s guest room.

The attackers demanded Tk 35,000 from his family as compensation. When his uncle, Abdur Rob Mia, refused to pay, they became enraged and beat Tofazzal with a cricket stump and a bamboo stick, leading to his death.

After the killing, relatives told the media that Tofazzal had “lost his mind” following the deaths of his parents and brother and had become a drifter.

Mohammad Amanullah, a supervisor at the DU estate office, filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station the following day.
