workers from labour-sending countries rush to migrate. The resulting surge in labour supply eventually pushes down average wages abroad, making remittance flows volatile and leaving long-term migrants particularly vulnerable.

At the same time, rising oil prices negatively affect domestic economies like Bangladesh. Costlier fuel imports raise production expenses, reduce consumption, depress incomes, and increase unemployment. Although remittances rise initially, they are insufficient to offset the overall economic strain caused by higher oil prices, the study observed.

Researchers at the seminar emphasised that regulated and well-planned migration could better protect workers’ earnings and ensure more stable remittance flows. Unrestricted migration, they warned, risks saturating foreign labour markets and undermining wage stability for migrant workers.
