Warn of tougher movement if govt fails to meet demands

Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and four other parties yesterday announced the second phase of their simultaneous movement with nearly identical demands, including holding the next parliamentary election based on the July Charter and introducing proportional representation in the voting system.

After staging three days of protests in September, the parties announced fresh programmes at separate press conferences and through media statements.

They said they will conduct nationwide outreach campaigns from today (Oct 1) to October 9 to mobilise public opinion in favour of their demands.

As part of this initiative, they plan to organise views-exchange meetings,
