Police have arrested the aunt of six-year-old Taiba, whose body was recovered from a neighbour’s septic tank in Shariatpur’s Vedarganj upazila two days after she went missing.

Taiba’s father filed a case with Sakhipur Police Station on Saturday, accusing several unidentified individuals. That night, police detained her aunt Ayesha Akhter for questioning, said OC Obaidul Haque of the station. Based on her confessional statement, she was formally arrested yesterday and produced before the court, he added.

Meanwhile, locals staged a sit-in in front of Sakhipur Police Station demanding justice. Students from Taiba’s school also formed a human chain on Sakhipur Bazar road, seeking punishment for the accused.
