culture, and national identity,” said Dr Sarwar Ali, executive president of Chhayanaut.

The theme of Chhayanaut’s Pahela Baishakh celebration this year is “Amar Mukti Aloy Aloy” (my freedom lies in light). Through this theme, Chhayanaut aims to convey a message of hope, resilience, and renewal.

Final rehearsals are currently underway at Chhayanaut Sangskriti Bhaban in Dhanmondi. Preparations began on January 17, and nearly 150 performers -- including vocalists and instrumentalists -- are set to participate in this year’s production.

The structure of the event will remain faithful to tradition. It will begin at 6:15am with an early morning raga performance and conclude with an address from Chhayanaut’s president and the singing of the national anthem.

Despite the shifting political and social landscape, Chhayanaut remains steadfast in its commitment to cultural resilience. “The spirit of the programme -- awakening the Bangalee consciousness through music at the dawn of the new year -- remains unchanged,” said Sarwar. “It is through this atmosphere that our cultural identity is reaffirmed.”

According to senior coordinator Rashid Al Helal, the final rehearsal will be held on Saturday at Chhayanaut Sangskriti Bhaban, followed by a full dress rehearsal at Ramna Park at 3:00pm on Sunday. This year’s lineup includes 12 solo songs, nine group performances, and three poetry recitations. The programme will end by 8:30am.

General Secretary Laisa Ahmed Lisa said, “This year’s programme is a call to become travellers on the path of light and liberation—to sing of new beginnings, of love for nature and humanity, and of self-awakening. It is a collective call for the Bangalee spirit to rise with a mantra of love for the people, the country, and the world.”

Vice-President Khairul Anam Shakil added, “We are passing through a critical juncture. But no matter how deep the darkness or how great the obstacles, we will continue to move forward—toward light, toward liberation. That is the spirit of this year’s celebration.”

He also said there were no challenges or restrictions in organising the event so far.

The programme will be broadcast live on Chhayanaut’s official Facebook and YouTube channels, as well as on BTV and BTV World.
