As many as 132 people were killed and 208 injured in 110 road accidents that took place in eight days during the Eid-ul-Fitr vacation between March 28 and April 4 in eight divisions across the country.

According to the data prepared by the Road Safety wing of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, 24 casualties were recorded on the Eid day alone on March 31.

BRTA published each day’s statistics on its website daily based on incidents that occurred in the 24-hour-period of that day.

According to the statistics, before Eid, 12 people were killed in 12 incidents on March 28, 13 were killed in 12 incidents on March 29, and 16 were killed in another 12 road accidents on March 30.

After the Eid, 19 people were killed in 17 road accidents on April 1, 22 people were killed in 12 incidents of accidents on April 2, while 12 more were killed in 11 accidents on April 3, and 14 were killed in 16 accidents on April 4.

This year, Eid was celebrated on March 31, with a five-day holiday from March 29 to April 2. In addition, the government declared April 3 as a public holiday, followed by weekly holidays on April 4 and 5, paving way for nine days of vacation.

DIVISION-WISE ACCIDENTS

Dhaka division saw 32 people killed and 89 injured in 27 incidents of road accidents.

In Chattogram, 31 people were killed and 51 others injured in 17 accidents, including at least 11 deaths and two injured in a single accident on April 2 as a passenger bus and a microbus collided head-on on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Lohagara upazila, as per media reports.

In Rajshahi, 14 accidents left as many people killed and 15 others injured, while 19 accidents left 23 people killed and another 23 injured in Khulna. At least 10 people were killed and another seven injured in seven road accidents in Mymensingh.

In Rangpur, 14 road accidents claimed 11 lives and left another 18 injured. In Barishal, seven accidents caused six deaths and left another 10 injured, while five were killed in five road accidents in Sylhet.
