Police have arrested a 55-year-old man in a case filed over the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Kushtia’s Khoksa upazila.

Afzal Ali, 55, was apprehended on Wednesday from Khoksa Railway Station while he was trying to flee to Dhaka, said Khoksa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Moinul Islam.

Earlier, locals vandalised Afzal’s house after the allegation of rape against him spread in the locality.

According to police and locals, on Tuesday, Afzal took the victim and some others to his house to cut freshly picked onions. Though the other children left the house, he tricked the victim to stay at the house and later raped the girl.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital. She underwent some tests, the OC said.
