North District BNP President Golam Akbar Khandaker was appointed convener, while Nurul Amin, also known as Kala Amin, was named member secretary. However, another faction led by Nurul Amin, also known as Chairman Amin, opposed the decision and began demonstrations.

According to locals, tensions had been simmering since Monday night, with multiple incidents of chase-and-counter-chase between rival groups.

Mirsarai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahfuza Jerin said, “Intelligence reports indicated a possible clash ahead of the March 26 programme, prompting the imposition of Section 144.”
