The government has instructed law enforcement agencies to update the list of criminals at police stations and take swift action against them. This step aims to improve the country’s law and order, including in the capital.

A crackdown is also underway against muggers, robbers, juvenile gangs, and in crime-prone zones.

The home ministry has made 16 decisions to improve law and order in the capital and across the country, according to a press release issued by Faisal Hasan, public relations officer (director) of the ministry, yesterday.

These decisions come at a time when joint forces, including the army and law enforcement agencies, continue “Operation Devil Hunt” nationwide and intensify a crackdown on criminals in the capital amid a surge in crime.

Law and order remains a major concern nearly seven months after the interim government took office.

Murder, abduction, robbery, burglary, and theft have all seen a spike across the country in January this year compared to the corresponding month over the last five years, according to police data based on the number of cases filed.

Operation Devil Hunt has led to nearly 12,500 arrests so far.
