Dhaka Metropolitan Police and other law enforcement agencies arrested 167 suspected criminals, including robbers and muggers, during a crackdown in the capital on Saturday, according to a DMP press release.

With these arrests, the total number of arrests in the DMP area over the past six days has reached 1,471.

Among the arrestees were six robbers, 18 snatchers, four extortionists, 10 thieves, 22 drug dealers, and 12 individuals with outstanding warrants. A total of 66 cases were filed following the arrests.

According to the DMP’s Crime Command and Control Center, 575 patrol teams operated across 50 police stations as part of efforts to ensure security and smooth movement in the capital.

Additionally, the DMP set up 65 checkpoints at key locations, while the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) operated 20 more. Additionally, 14 CTTC, 12 ATU, and 10 patrol teams of the DMP and Rab were deployed in crime-prone areas.

Meanwhile, the Police Headquarters did not provide updated data on arrests from Operation Devil Hunt yesterday.

Since the operation began on February 8, a total of 12,500 people have been arrested as of Saturday. The interim government launched the operation to restore law and order.

An analysis of reports from several districts by this newspaper found that many of the arrestees in the operation are members of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations, facing charges in cases filed after the fall of the Hasina-led government on August 5.

Despite the ongoing Operation Devil Hunt, crimes like mugging and robbery have continued.
