A significant number of highway robbery incidents have made headlines recently.

According to the release yesterday, the decisions include heightened security across the capital with an increased number of checkpoints and patrols at key locations and in the crime-prone areas. A joint task force comprising the army, various units of the police, and the Border Guard Bangladesh is conducting intensified operations in targeted areas to curb crime.

As part of the decision, the home ministry will monitor special operation that has started across the country from February 8 to capture identified criminals, terrorists, drug dealers, and smugglers.

To boost the morale of various law enforcement agencies, including the police, a workshop on “Enforcing the Law with Emphasis on Human Rights and the Environment in the Changing Situation of the Country” has been held across the country with the participation of the police, administration, judiciary, and public prosecutors.

The ministry directed the officials from various law enforcement agencies, including unit chiefs, deputy police commissioners, and army brigade commanders to brief the media on the decisions and actions taken in response to security concerns.

The authorities have increased regular patrolling on major roads in the capital, with additional patrol units deployed from the navy and coast guard to enhance security.

Special law enforcement patrols have been strengthened in areas surrounding Dhaka, including Tongi, Bosila, Keraniganj, and Munshiganj.

To improve law enforcement response time and efficiency, steps have been taken to procure motorcycles for officers of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, BGB, Ansar, and Bangladesh Coast Guard, enabling them to conduct swift patrols on alleys and in the crime-prone zones, according to the home ministry press release.

Measures have been adopted to counter misinformation, rumours, and propaganda by disseminating accurate information to the public.

Senior officials, including the home adviser, the chief adviser’s special assistant, the home secretary, the inspector general of police, and DMP commissioner, have been conducting surprise inspections of police stations, checkpoints, and patrol activities during late-night and early-morning hours, reads the home ministry release.

Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has already held meetings with law enforcement officials in all administrative divisions and issued necessary directives to enhance security measures.
