The proposed changes to the constitution of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), especially the dissolution of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) and the reduction of councillors from Category 2 in the BCB general council, are causing quite a furore amongst Dhaka club cricket officials.

In a scheduled meeting today, 76 clubs under the CCDM will gather to discuss their concerns over the proposed reforms. The meeting is set to take place at 3 pm at a city hotel.

It was learned that the changes would reduce the number of councillors from clubs from 12 to just four, while the number of BCB directors would drop from 25 to 21.

Club officials have vehemently criticised the new changes in TV and print media reports over the past few days. There has been criticism that reducing the number of Dhaka-based clubs undermines their significance and contribution to Bangladesh cricket.

A five-member committee led by BCB director Najmul Abedeen Fahim is handling the proposals.

“We are fine-tuning the proposal and will possibly hand it over very soon. Before that, we will have a discussion with a group of people who can see it from a neutral point of view,” Fahim told The Daily Star yesterday.

The proposal will then be forwarded to the general council and, ultimately, to the National Sports Council (NSC) for approval.

Regarding the criticism and media storm surrounding the proposed changes, Fahim felt that “many of the things being said aren’t right.”
