A Pabna court yesterday sent three people to jail over gang rape of a student of Pabna University of Science and Technology in Sadar upazila.

Police arrested Mehedi Masud, 26, Mahamudul Hasan, 23, and Harunur Rashid, 27, in Pabna town yesterday morning, after the student’s mother sued four people, including the three, on Tuesday night, said Sanjoy Kumar Saha, inspector (operation) of Sadar Police Station.

Citing the case, Sanjoy said Mehedi developed a relationship with the female student. They broke up recently after he got married to another.

However, they remained in touch, he added.

On Monday evening, Mehedi called the student and visited different areas riding a bike. Later, he took her to an isolated place in Shalgaria-Baganpara area where he and other accused raped her.

Sanjoy said they were trying to nab the other accused.
