the ACC itself.

“If the society is corrupt, even the ACC might be affected by corruption. There are allegations against me as well, which you should investigate. Allegations against anyone should be reviewed with fairness and integrity,” he said.

“Corruption is the root cause of inequality. If corruption is curtailed across all sectors, inequality will reduce. I firmly believe we will succeed in reducing corruption. We seek everyone’s cooperation in addressing the challenges,” he added.

Momen officially took charge of ACC 42 days after the resignation of the previous commission, led by Moinuddin Abdullah, on October 29.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued the official notification regarding appointments for the new commission earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) called on the newly appointed ACC chairman and commissioners to ensure transparency by publicly disclosing their income and asset statements.

It also requested ACC’s clarification regarding their position on corruption allegations and any political affiliations.

In response, Momen said, “In the next seven days, we will publicly release the asset statements for the entire commission, including myself.”

Addressing the allegations against him, he said, “The complaints date back to 2009 and have been investigated multiple times between 2009 and 2022. In 2023, long before the August 5 changeover this year, the ACC certified that the allegations were unsubstantiated.”

“The interim government does not carry any political character like other political governments. Its objective is to move forward with the people, without being influenced by politics, and we will also work impartially and with integrity,” he added.
