During the trial, eight prosecution witnesses testified before the court.

According to the case statement, a group of leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations gathered in front of Wasa Bhaban at Kawran Bazar in the Tejgaon area around 8:00pm on March 26, 2013, and torched a taxi-cab.

Following the incident, Mohammad Babul, the driver of the vehicle, filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station.

In addition, magistrate Mehedi yesterday sentenced 11 BNP activists to four and a half years of rigorous imprisonment in another case filed over political violence in Gulshan in October 2018.

Among the convicts, Mamun Chowdhury and Wasim Khan were present in the courtroom when the magistrate pronounced the judgement.

The case statement said a group of BNP members gathered in front of Cambrian School in Gulshan’s Shahjadpur area around 8:00pm on October 20, 2018, ahead of a rally demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. They also vandalised vehicles and ransacked shops there.

The police then filed a case with Gulshan police in this regard.

Another Dhaka Court yesterday sentenced 10 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists to 30 months imprisonment over political violence in Paltan in December 2013.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mainul Islam also acquitted 45 others in the case.

BNP’s Dhaka South City Member Secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Swechchhasebak Dal’s General Secretary Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel and Dhaka South City Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary Shafiqul Islam Masud are among the convicts.

During the trial, 12 prosecution witnesses gave their depositions.

According to the case documents, a group of leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat gathered in front of Paltan Tower around 6:35pm on December 1, 2013. They hurled four crude bombs at policemen, which resulted in four cops getting injured.

Following the incident, police filed a case with Paltan Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury yesterday sentenced 12 BNP members to different jail terms over political violence in Kamrangirchar on September 13, 2018.

He also convicted another 16 BNP activists to different terms in jail over torching a vehicle in the area on November 6 that year.
