In the following angiogram in April, when the patient again had chest pain, the right coronary artery was found to have narrowed down, according to the rejoinder.

“We previously had this suspicion which has been mentioned in the discharge summary of the patient as ‘long term benefits remain doubtful’,” Siraj wrote.

“In fact, the open-heart surgery was successful from the perspective that the patient had been able to undergo the angioplasty later, which was not possible unless the first surgery (open heart surgery) was done.”

The Daily Star published the report based on a copy of the complaint submitted to Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) by the patient.

The patient complained about an alleged unsuccessful open-heart surgery on December 12, which he claimed led to his cardiac arrest approximately three months later.

Besides, the report also incorporated comments of Dr Masum Siraj on the second, 10th and 11th paragraphs, where he denied the allegation, which was also mentioned in the rejoinder in details.
