In the notice, they stated that filling up the pond without serving any national interest is an illegal, punishable offence, regardless of its ownership.

The DIT plot pond is on a land of around 4 acres. A total of 13.59 acres of adjacent land were acquired in favour of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).

Later, one Noushad Ahmed and others filed a petition to the High Court to release the land. The court ordered in favour of the petitioner. Rajuk’s appeals were dismissed.

On June 2, locals announced a siege programme and human chain to protect the over sixty-year-old pond. However, the programme was cancelled as the organisers did not have authorisation from the police.
