	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">The last event in Dhaka stirred the political landscape. It came at the cost of a life and imprisonment of hundreds, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">The party leaders are now discussing the rallies and the outcomes among themselves.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “The involvement of common people was noticeable in the rallies. A movement gets success when the people participate.”

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">Transport strikes, attacks on the activists, and mobile internet restrictions were inevitable during the rallies, said other leaders.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">The mass gatherings created a movement-oriented mentality among the activists, they added.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">The top BNP leadership believes that the morale and commitment of the activists has been boosted and those who thought the BNP was in a leadership crisis are now praising its leaders.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">BNP Vice-Chairman Mohammad Shahjahan, said, “Many of the senior leaders are in jail. The movement would be unaffected if even more senior leaders got arrested. The leaders and activists from the grassroots will make the programmes a success under the leadership of acting chairman Tarique Rahman.”

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">BNP leaders said that the rallies have created a momentum, and now it is a challenge for the party to carry it until the demand for election under a non-partisan interim government is met.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">Another dissident rapper, Toomaj Salehi, who expressed support for anti-regime protests, is charged with “corruption on earth” and could face a death sentence, Iranian judicial authorities confirmed last month.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">“We fear for the life of Iranian artists who have been indicted on charges carrying the death penalty,” United Nations experts said in a statement, referring to the cases of Sayedi and Salehi.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">Amnesty and IHR have also raised the case of Hamid Gharehasanlou, a medical doctor sentenced to death. They say he was tortured in custody and his wife was coerced into giving evidence against him which she later sought to retract.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">The US, European Union members and UK strongly condemned the execution of Shekari. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said it showed a “boundless contempt for human life”.

	<lang class="3" style=".Bodylaser" font="Blacker Pro Display" fontStyle="Regular" size="9">Iran on Saturday and Friday again summoned the British and German ambassadors to protest their countries’ actions, marking the 15th time in less than three months Tehran has called in foreign envoys as the demonstrations continue.
