Rabiul said present-day newspapers can learn significantly about editorial management from Abul Mansur Ahmad’s journalistic works.

“Abul Mansur Ahmad established that a strong editorial can make a newspaper reputed. Historically, journalism in this region had followed a rebellious attitude against tyranny,” he added.

In his speech, The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam said society was at the core of Abul Mansur Ahmad’s journalism.

Mahfuz Anam, also the youngest son of Abul Mansur Ahmad, said as a journalist, his father was gifted with virtues such as consciousness about society, the ability to speak for the oppressed and courage to tell the truth.

ULAB Vice Chancellor Prof Imran Rahman stressed the necessity of providing journalism students with lessons on how to differentiate facts from fiction.

At the event yesterday, certificates, crests, and books were handed over to the winners of a debate competition on Abul Mansur Ahmad’s journalism, which was held at the university’s campus recently.

The winners are Kakon Sikdar (first), KM Mahmudul Hasan (second), and Muntaqua Zarifah Rana (third).

Besides, three more participants -- Nazifa Chowdhury, Eamin Hossain, and Monjuri Rani Biswas -- received honourable mentions.

The jury for the competition comprised journalist Kajal Rashid Shahin, ULAB faculty member Sarkar Barbaq Quarmal, Emran Mahfuz of Abul Mansur Ahmad Memorial Trust, and Khan Md Rabiul Alam.
