Shujan said that amendment proposal that the EC sent to the Law Ministry “is incomplete as the recommendations raised by political parties during their talks with the commission were not “taken into consideration”.

Badiul said they were confused about several proposals of the EC regarding empowering it with power to cancel election before publishing of gazette notification, cancel the election results and empower the presiding officer to immediately stop the voting in a particular center.

The EC has inherent power to do these works in line with an appellate division verdict, said Badiul.

Local governance expert Prof Tofail Ahmed, proposed to bring the changes in the RPO to introduce postal ballot for expatriate Bangladeshis.

Lawyer Shahdeen Malik said that the amendment should have been prepared and published on the basis of the views of the political parties and the EC should publish a report on the proposals of the political parties.
