Additional Attorney General Mohammad Mehedi Hassan Chowdhury told the HC bench that Grameen Telecom has not made due payments to the workers, and its board of directors has diverted huge amounts of money, around Tk 3,000 crore, from Grameen Telecom to its sister concerns, in violation of laws.

Therefore, an investigation is required, he said.

In reply, Grameen Telecom’s lawyer Mustafizur Rahman Khan said ACC has already asked his client to furnish relevant documents regarding its transactions, from the date of its incorporation till now.

After hearing, the HC accepted the statement of Md Yousuf Ali, the lawyer for former workers and employees of Grameen Telecom, saying that he and his partners (lawyers) have received Tk 16 crore as legal fees from his clients for dealing with 243 cases.

Contacted, lawyer Yousuf Ali said he leads a law chamber that has seven lawyers including him, and Tk 16 core has been paid as fees for all of them.

Yousuf said all 110 cases filed against Grameen Telecom have been withdrawn by his clients, after they reached a settlement over claims of payments.
