Family alleges he was beaten to death

The body of a youth in handcuffs was found floating in the Haridoa river of Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Tuesday, hours after his arrest.

His family alleged that he was beaten to death and thrown into the river.

The deceased, Sujan Saha, 27, of Hajipur Daspara area, used to work in a clothing store in Shekherchar area of ​​Narsingdi.

Sujan’s sister Pinky Saha said police arrested her brother from Brahmandi area of the district town early Tuesday and took him to Hajipur area. There, police asked the workers of a factory to beat him and then police threw him into the river, she alleged.

Locals found his body around 9:00am.

Saheb Ali Pathan, additional superintendent (crime and administration) of Narsingdi police, said Sujan attacked police and jumped into the river to escape while being taken to Narsingdi Model Police Station.
