With the number of daily coronavirus cases on the decline, most of the general and ICU beds at the Covid-19 dedicated hospitals across the country remains vacant.

There are 12,289 general beds for coronavirus patients across the country. Of those, 9,291 or more than 75 percent were vacant as of yesterday, according to data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the total 1,090 ICU beds, 586 or more than half were unoccupied.

Since the second wave of the pandemic spread across the country in the second week of March, the number of daily cases started going up. The number of daily new cases and deaths broke all previous records.

The highest 7,626 new cases were recorded on April 7, while the highest 112 deaths were reported on April 19.
