US commercial aerospace company SpaceX has announced they’re to flight test the Super Heavy booster part of its “Starship” Launch System.

On Twitter, the company’s CEO and founder Elon Musk noted that they are planning to make use of both of its launch pads at its Boca Chica development facility, with test starting as quickly as “a few months”.

Starship, previously knows as the “Interplanetary Launch System” is a two-part superheavy rocket system designed to carry a large payload into orbit. The eventual goal of this system is to carry colonists to Mars. Recently, the SN8 prototype of the crewed part of the system successfully flew to an altitude of around 40,000 feet and then executed a crucial belly flop maneuver. Although the unit was lost upon landing, SpaceX considers that test to be a major success.
